Our program is based on the High/Scope approach (www.highscope.org). We believe children construct their understanding of the world from their active involvement with people, materials, and ideas. This principle is based on the constructivist theories of development of Jean Piaget and other developmental psychologists. It suggests that all children-whether they are infants, preschoolers, or second-graders; children with learning disabilities, or above-average intelligence are active learners. They acquire knowledge by actively experiencing the world around them-choosing, exploring, manipulating, practicing, transforming, and experimenting. The range and depth of children’s understanding of the world is continually changing and expanding as a result of their day-to-day transactions.

Following children’s cues and initiatives, teachers, in partnership with parents, establish our center schedules and routines that are consistent in order and interaction style, so children can anticipate what happens next, yet flexible enough to accommodate children’s individual rhythms and temperaments. The physical environment is secure and inviting, where children are encouraged to explore materials, exercise creativity, and solve problems. Our teachers also plan flexible, child-centered group times, which include: music, language and reading skills, logic, and communication skills.

Finally, we believe children must have opportunities to experiment, to find solutions, to take risks, and even to fail at attempted tasks. From trying different approaches, seeking out allies, and assessing all options they emerge with the perseverance and self-confidence needed to succeed in any serious endeavor.

The A Child’s Delight Learning Center is a Christian childcare center in which we teach Jesus’ love for us. Bible stories and songs are incorporated into our small groups and circle times throughout the day. We also pray before eating our snacks and meals, and celebrate Christmas as Christ’s birth and Easter as Christ’s resurrection. We understand that not all families follow the Christian belief and we would never coerce a child to join in prayers, songs, or stories depicting our Christian beliefs. If you have any questions concerning our religious activities please contact your child’s Lead Teacher or the Director.
